About Tectonics 2012 : Jyoti Basu, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal inaugurated this Engineering Institute on 19 September 1998.BUIE is affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) from the academic year 2001-2002.The college is approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and Directorate of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal. Though it is under WBUT ( WBUTech or simply UTech) now, it was originally under Burdwan University from the academic year 1998-1999 to 2000-2001. At that time it was the first engineering college in Bankura district, there were only three colleges under the Burdwan University, the first one was the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur (presently National Institute of Technology, Durgapur), the second was BUIE and the third one is Asansole Engineering College. The foundation stone of the residential campus was laid down by Prof.Shankar Sen,the then M.I.C.,Department of Power, Nonconventional Energy and Science and Technology, Government of West Bengal and Prof.Partha De, the then M.I.C.,Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal and Chairman of the Institute,on 19 February 1999.
