Preparation for CLAT CLAT is an entrance exam for 14 NLU's across India. No of marks: 200 No of questions: 200 Time: 2 hrs Question paper is divided into five sections. English- 40 marks General Knowledge- 50 marks Elementary Maths- 20 marks Logical Reasoning- 40 marks Legal Aptitude - 50 marks Daily study is the key to success for CLAT. It is advisable to study and practice for minimum 6-8 hrs daily. As many of you may have seen the previous year's question paper you will be having an idea that the exam is not as difficult as other competitive or entrance exams. The main difficulty of this exam is the limited time provided. Therefore time management is must for the exam. If we divide the time given and the number of questions we have 36 seconds for each question. This can only be achieved by practice. Practice as many question as you can. There are number of books and materials available on the internet. Follow the divide and rule theory of Britishers for preparation. Divide your time according to various sections and then practice. English This section is of 40 marks. It contains various questions such as comprehension, parajumbles, meanings etc. Read some good books on comprehension. Practice questions on parajumbles. Good vocabulary is the most important thing for this section. Read some good books on word power. It is advisable to practice for one and a half hrs daily. General Knowledge This section is of 50 marks. As mentioned on the CLAT website, questions only on current affairs of the past year are to be asked. But however as it happened in the paper of 2012 few questions on static GK was asked. However this section can be very useful in determining the result. It forms 25% of the paper. So it is essential that GK section should be strong. For this read some good newspapers such as THE HINDU. Also there are certain websites which help you prepare this section. Some books like Manorma year handbook which are publicised at the end of March should be referred. Gk is very vast and there are no boundaries of it but still reading from the above sources will help you a lot. Study at least an hour a day and make your notes on that so you can revise it on the last moment. Elementary Maths This section is of 20 marks. I have seen students who find maths difficult and less important. But if you know maths or master it you can easily score more than 17 marks in it. There are certain shortcuts which are useful in solving number of questions. So please search for as many shortcuts as you can (only for maths). It is advisable to practice maths for 45 mins. Logical reasoning This section is of 40 marks. There are many subsections in it such as verbal reasoning, analytical reasoning, critical reasoning, etc. Read some good books on logic reasoning. This section requires patience and good skill. This skill is developed by practice. Practice at least one and half hour for this. A good logic can earn you more marks. Legal Aptitude This is the most important section of the paper as the score of this section is referred during tie between two students. It is of 50 marks. As mentioned in the curriculum question based on legal principle are to be asked and no prior legal knowledge is required. But still some knowledge about the constitution is required. This is the only section which can be mastered through practice. Practice as many questions as you can. Don't apply your prior legal knowledge while solving the question. Only apply the law given in the principle and answer the question according to it. Also read the facts carefully. Practice for minimum 2 hrs daily. Time management English- 30 min GK- 10min Maths- 15min Logic reasoning - 30 min Legal aptitude- 35 min Another important question in the minds of the student is that which section to start with. As such there is no particular pattern. But still it is advisable to start with the section in which you are strong. This will help you with your time management. Don't start with the section in which you are less strong. At last if you follow the above written methods you will succeed in scoring good marks. THANK YOU.
