Sep 26th 2012, 10:47 Averages, simply put, can be expressed by this formula: Averages = Total of the terms / Number of terms If there are three terms - 7, 11 and 15, Average = 7 + 11 + 15 / 3 = 11. Unfortunately in CLAT, or in the other Law School exams, the questions won't be this easy! (Even though they call it Elementary Mathematics) So, let's move to questions that are slightly more difficult.. or to put it another way.. less easy. :P The average weight of a class consisting of 50 students is 50 kg. If a new student joins in,the average rises by 4 kg. Now since you won't have forever to solve these in CLAT, let's work out a faster way. New number of people in class x Old average weight = 51 x 50 = 2550 New number of people in class x Increase in average weight = 51 x 4 = 204 Therefore, total new weight = 2550 + 204 = 2754. If there are any queries related to Averages, feel free to ask! I will revert back ASAP :) | | | | |
