Top companies hire from IMT as the institute never fails to deliver quality I N A CAREER spanning nearly three decades, Rajeev Karwal has steered the fortunes of a host of consumer durables companies such as LG, Onida, Philips and Electrolux before turning into an entrepreneur with Milagro, a consulting firm he established in 2007. " The spirit of entrepreneurship had always been there in me," says Karwal, attributing his entrepreneurial zeal to his alma mater , IMT Ghaziabad. " A lot of creative and constructive learning takes place at the institute right from day one," says Karwal, who graduated in 1984. " IMT prepared me to be the best in my profession and also taught me the value of patience, perseverance and hard work." It's this tradition of mentor-ship and guidance that enables IMT to retain its position as one of Delhi- NCR's top B- Schools. Started 31 years ago by the Lajpat Rai Education Society, the institute, spread across a 14- acre campus, has been graded National A*** and NCRA*** by the credit rating agency CRISIL. For IMT, pursuing quality education is not a challenge but a mission. " We go after the mission with single- minded dedication," says IMT Director Bibek Banerjee, who recently started a DBA ( Doctor of Business Administration) programme in association with Grenoble Ecole de Management, France. Foreign Exchange The programme will begin in France in May and its intake will be limited to 15- 20 professionals with eight years of experience. " This is a first- of- its kind degree programme in the country that will give executive talent an opportunity to leverage their rich experience at work to obtain a globally renowned doctoral degree without having to leave their jobs," explains Banerjee. The institute also has exchange programmes with 80 partner schools around the world, including a joint research programme on social enterprises with the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago ( USA). Some of other programmes are the post- graduate diploma in management and specializations in Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources and International Business. Many of the 70 full- time IMT faculty members have active links with international universities and publications, and their annual average of 100 research papers presented and published in international conferences and journals is creditable. The institute has teaching staff from Northampton who specialise in Human Resource Management. IMT revamped its curriculum recently to reflect the changing economic realities . " We found out that a lot of what we taught in classrooms was outdated," says Banerjee, adding that IMT has started providing students with the flexibility of opting for a specialization. The internship programme at IMT, according to Banerjee, is now structured in such a way that " every student is mentored by a practicing manager, a faculty member and an institute alumnus." The placement season saw good response from companies across verticals. Placements @IMT Infosys, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank were some of the top companies that hired from the IMT campus. The highest annual package this year has been ` 21 lakh ( domestic) and ` 29 lakh ( international), but the average salary has been almost the same as that of the previous year — around ` 9.5 lakh. Some of the major hirers have been Infosys, Olam International, Gallup Consulting, HSBC and Carlsberg India. Many new companies joined the rush this year, including Google, Abbott India, Barclays and Cavin Care. The lineup doesn't come as a surprise.
